The Latin American Ensemble will perform an evening of Brazilian percussion music celebrating the rhythms of the Salgueiro, Mocidade, and Mangueira samba schools from Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival. In addition, the ensemble will honor the African roots of samba through a performance of select Candomblé rhythms and songs. Rounding out the concert, the Brazilian Music Club at IU, led by João David, will perform a set of classic choros by composers such as Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim, Waldir Azevedo, and more.
