IU's Latin American Ensemble, directed by Dr. Joe Galvin, performs their spring concert on Friday, April 21st at 8pm in Auer Hall, free and open to the public. If you cannot attend in-person, enjoy this performance live-streamed via IUMusicLive!
The Latin American Ensemble features two chamber ensembles, each playing a short set for the concert:
- The Afro-Cuban Folkloric Ensemble (ACFE) plays traditional percussion and vocal sacred and secular folkloric music from cultural communities in Matanzas, Cuba. This semester, ACFE will play a suite dedicated to the Lucumí and Arará volcano deity, known as Aganyú and Sogbó.
- The popular music ensemble Orquesta Escuela Vieja consists of strings, winds, percussion, and voices performing popular Cuban dance styles, including classic salsa and charanga favorites, and many more.
