The ensemble El Quinteto Leopoldo Federico, from Bogotá, Colombia, has been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards for Best Folk Album (El trébol agorero, 2023, Quinteto con voz, 2020, and Pa’ que más: Música andina colombiana, 2017) and Best Tango Album (Bogotá – Buenos Aires, 2015). The Quintet interprets the most representative styles of tango and new developments in Colombian music. The group was formed in 2011 by Bogotá musicians with extensive experience in a variety of musical genres. The group has participated in numerous festivals of tango, jazz, and Colombian music in major concert halls of Colombia, the United States, Mexico, Spain, and France. The Quintet has accompanied singers from the international scene, such as Guillermo Fernández, Ariel Ardit, Alicia Vignola, Inés Cuello, Jesús Hidalgo, Esteban Riera, Lautaro Mazza, Valeria Lima, and Carolina Minella. The Quintet has been the winner of awards and grants to promote art and music, including the Chamber Groups Award of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, with additional local and international cultural transmission grants from District Institute of the Arts and the Ministry of Culture. The Quintet’s director and bandoneonist, Giovanni Parra, directs Orquesta de Tango de Bogotá, a breeding ground for tango musicians in the city, and has been invited to play as a soloist by the Symphony Orchestra of Colombia and the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra.
