Salón Latino Chamber Music Series: Julián Carrillo 150th Anniversary Concert

A 150th anniversary concert of the composer Julián Carrillo (1875-1965, Mexico) that will feature a broad range of Carrillo's tonal, atonal, and microtonal works. The concert will feature Alejandra Villareal Martinez (soprano), Benjamin David Tufte (piano), Stanley Cheng-Hao Kuo (conductor), Shawn Keyonnie McLain (trumpet), José Alejandro Hernández (violin), along with undergraduate and graduate students from the Jacobs School of Music. The concert repertoire includes: the four art songs "Adiós" (ca. 1895), ¡México! (1936), "Un cautivo beso" (1909), and "Aleluya" (1909); Preludio a Colón (1922) for solo soprano, flute and guitar in quarter tones, string quartet in eighths tones, and sixteenth-tone harp; Seis preludios para piano (ca. 1920); "Tepepan," escena campestre, op. III (ca. 1924) for solo and saxophone quartet in quarter tones, and sixteenth-tone harp; and Balbuceos, para piano metamorfoseador “Carrillo” de 16avos. de tono (1959), which features the sixteenth-tone piano as soloist, accompanied by a chamber ensemble.
